Course Overview

Local Safeguarding Boards have a responsibility to ensure that agencies named under Section 11 of the Children Act 2004 have safer recruitment practices in place. This module will assist those involved in recruitment in ensuring they meet these requirements.

The module considers statistics relating to safer recruitment, statistics are important as they simplify the size of the problem. It also considers the background to the introduction of the more robust safer recruitment processes, which followed the Bichard Inquiry, which looked at the recruitment of Ian Huntley in the Soham case.

On completion of this module learners will have covered these learning objectives:

• Develop the skills and understanding needed to put in place safer recruitment processes
• Check current practise in your organisation
• Provide understanding of the Independent Safeguarding Authority and the Vetting and Barring Scheme
• Promote a safer culture within your organisation
• Raise your awareness about abuse and abusers

What

How

The material for this course has been broken down into several smaller lessons, each lesson dealing with a specific area of the overall subject.

The lesson consist of a series of pages in which an instructor will talk you through the lesson material at a pace that suits you. Pages may also include supporting pictures, graphs, animation or extra sounds to help with the learning where appropriate. Some lessons will include challenges/quizzes to help you keep in touch and interested in the material.

Lessons can be taken in any order and each lesson may be PAUSED and RESUMED at any stage. When all lessons in the course have been completed our system will realise and automatically record that you have successfully completed the course
