Housing Governance: The Role of the Board Member - Housing Associations

Course Overview

Housing Associations aim to provide housing at reasonable rents for those in housing need who are often unable or unwilling to purchase their own homes. Like most organisations social housing providers have objectives which they have to meet. The key to success in achieving these goals is the way these social housing providers are governed. To be well governed requires an effective Board or Management Committee to oversee the running of the organisation.

On completing the module learners will be able to: -

  • Explain the roles and responsibilities of Housing Association Boards.
  • Explain the roles and responsibilities of individual Board members.
  • Give examples of the skills and understanding required for being an effective Board member.
Other courses in the Housing Governance series:
  • The Regulatory Framework for Housing Associations
  • The Regulatory Framework for Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOs)
  • The Role of the Board Member for Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOs)
