Hazardous Materials: Information Retrieval
Course Overview
When fire fighters attend an incident where it is known or suspected that dangerous substances are involved, it is vital that a correct identification of that substance is made. Operational involvement must be limited until correct identification is made, as incorrect operational procedures applied due to wrong identification may have serious consequences.
In this engaging e-learning module, learners will gain the knowledge required to ensure correct identification is made. Having completed the module learners should know:
- What different information sources are available for identifying hazardous materials
- About the UN Dangerous Goods classification system
- The requirements for marking vehicles in different modes of transport
- About the CHIP regulations
- The importance of Hazard Information Boards and ERICards to appropriate incident handling
- The role of the HazMat Advisor and COMAH pre-planning.
